Saving lives every day
I don't remember a whole lot from those early days but I knew I was in trouble.
Bob never thought his life would depend on The Alfred. A hard-working policeman from Echuca, he felt pain in his arm one morning and noticed a small blister on his finger. At his wife's insistence, he went to the GP. Within 24 hours, he was fighting for his life.
By the end of the day, Bob was barely conscious in a helicopter on his way to The Alfred. His wife was told to prepare for the worst. His condition, an infection called necrotising fasciitis, was now rampaging through his body. His vital organs began to shut down.
Bob was treated in a hyperbaric chamber at the hospital which was able to shut down the infection and stop it from spreading. Thanks to The Alfred, his life and right arm were saved.
